Full Moon in Leo Report
Rhianna Quanstrom | JAN 31
The Full Moon in Leo, on February 1st at 5:09 p.m., combines heart-centered, fiery Leo with the collaborative, future-focused vision of Aquarius. Through harmonizing these two energies within, we begin to embody the future we wish to create.
In this Full Moon in Leo guide, I’ll cover the most important aspects at play and how those energies may show up in our lives. Each section comes with reflective questions you are invited to journal or meditate on. As always, pay attention to what stands out to you and strikes a chord of resonance in your heart, for this shows you what energy you are most meant to work with during this Leo Full Moon.
Full Moon in Leo Overview
The Full Moon, at 13 degrees of Leo, is opposing an Aquarius stellium with the Sun (13°), Mars (7°), Pluto (3°), Venus (19°), and Mercury (21°). As we can see, there is a pronounced Aquarian energy during this Full Moon. As the Moon reflects the light of the Sun, so too does it reflect these qualities within us. These energies are illuminated within our psyches so we can better understand, reflect on, and embody them.
Before we further translate these planetary frequencies in Aquarius, let’s focus on what Full Moons represent, and specifically, what a Full Moon in Leo is all about.
Full Moons are a culmination of energy. If the New Moon is planting a seed, a Full Moon is that seed as a mature plant in bloom. As such, we may see the intentions we planted on the New Moon coming into sharper focus or appearing in our reality. This is a good time to revisit those intentions and see how they are reflected in your life.
Full Moons are also illuminating; they shine a light on what you are meant to see or know. Just as the Full Moon lights up the land at night, so too does it illuminate our inner world and psyche—that which is usually hidden in the darkness of our subconscious.
With the Full Moon in Leo, it’s helping to bring our awareness to the qualities of fixed fire. Leo is all about willpower, courage, leadership, creativity, playfulness, competitiveness, and stepping into the light. As the sign of the heart, Leo asks us to bring the desires of our hearts out into the light. This is often seen as owning and sharing one’s gifts with the world.
Leos are not afraid to be center stage; in fact, they can love being the center of attention and performing for those around them. With their courageous lion-heart, they have an abundance of love, playfulness, and charisma to share.
In its shadow expression, Leo can be self-serving, self-glorifying, egocentric, and think the world revolves around them (like the Sun in our solar system, which rules the sign of Leo). One of the most important things for Leo is to stay centered in their heart and to allow their talents, creativity, and self-expression to emerge from love—rather than their ego or self-glorifying desires.
These are the qualities we want to reflect on during this Leo Full Moon. Specifically, we want to get in touch with our hearts and our natural, creative gifts. What is it within our hearts that we are meant to bring into the world? Leo reminds us to shine our inner light with courage and not to be afraid to be our authentic selves.
Reflective Questions:
Are the intentions I set on the New Moon showing up in my life in any way?
What does it feel like to connect to my inner light? Is it bright or dim? Where does it show up in my body?
In what ways can I be more playful and light-hearted in my life?
What activities bring out my inner child in a positive way?
In what ways can I nurture my authentic self-expression and creative gifts?
Moon Opposing Aquarian Stellium: Harnessing our Gifts for the Benefit of Humanity
While the Moon in Leo is asking us to identify our light and the gifts that bring us emotional satisfaction, the Aquarian stellium it opposes is asking us how those gifts and our inner light can benefit our communities and humanity as a whole.
Aquarius is a highly creative and inventive sign, ruling technology and innovation. As the sign of fixed air, it brings ideas and inspiration from the mind down into reality (into fixed form). Aquarians are future-focused and unique, with out-of-the-box ideas for improving systems and structures. It is a revolutionary sign, breaking free from old structures that no longer serve.
We can see this playing out on the world stage with Pluto, the planet of power and the underworld, now in Aquarius. Old structures and unhealthy power dynamics are being shaken by the freedom, truth, and humanitarian-focused Aquarian energy. Pluto in Aquarius is all about power to the people. And now, each of our personal planets is in this energy as well, as they all just passed by Pluto.
This means the way we think and communicate (Mercury), the way we relate to others (Venus), how we identify (Sun), and the ways we take action (Mars), are all being asked to transform in the cauldron of Pluto in Aquarius. Furthermore, we are in a great transition phase as we move further into the Age of Aquarius.
We can look at this Full Moon as a teaser of what that overall energy will look like, and how we are meant to evolve in it as well. This is a moment about collaboration and recognizing our shared humanity. It is about shining our light and sharing our wisdom and gifts for the benefit of all.
To do this, we must break free from old paradigms in the mind (Mercury), old ways of relating to others (Venus), outdated egoic identities that keep us separate from others (Sun), and take action for peace and harmony, rather than war and power-over dynamics (Mars). Yes, this is a time of revolution not only in the collective, but also within our own beings. It’s time to harness the energy of Uranus—the ruler of Aquarius—and dive into our collective and individual awakening process.
We must take the courage, fire, and leadership of Leo into our own psyche and bravely dismantle the systems within that are keeping us small, afraid, and caged. We must break free from what is keeping our light hidden and dim. To do this, we have to pay attention to where fear shows up in our lives and notice the ways it holds us back.
By confronting our fear from a neutral (and gentle) place, we can start to disengage from the mental stories we are entangled in and move into a heart-centered place of wisdom. By uniting the heart with the mind, as this Full Moon is asking us, we start to think and take action differently. The way we relate to others and ourselves changes. Most importantly, we make decisions from a centered and wise place rather than a place of fear.
Aquarius is the sign of the water-bearer, whose symbol represents pouring life-giving wisdom (water) onto humanity. We all have an inner genius, a wise one within, and Aquarius tells us that we are meant to share this wisdom with our community for the evolution of our collective humanity.
While it is the sign of community, Aquarius is a bit of a paradox, as it also recognizes the importance of diversity and individuality. It is about coming together as a collective while still honoring our unique gifts and individual expression. When we truly honor each other's diversity and uniqueness—rather than fighting and fearing our differences—is when we thrive and move forward as a collective family.
When you zoom out and look at the Earth from outer space, and span out even farther to other galaxies with their own species and unique lives, it becomes apparent how silly it is that we fight each other. At some point, we must realize that we are all together in this precious human experience on Earth. We are an Earth family among the great cosmos of existence. We should be coming together to support each other as we navigate this wonderful and difficult human life, not making it harder for one another.
It is the wisdom of when your light shines, mine does too. When we shine our light together, we shine even brighter. We have been conditioned to believe in scarcity and competition—that when one person shines brightly, the people around them can’t shine as well. We are moving into an entirely new paradigm of abundance that tells us the more we shine our light, the more others will as well.
But, of course, for this collective perspective change to occur, we have to transform our individual perspectives, and that is what is occurring with our personal planets passing through Aquarius. This is a time for stepping into the light and sharing our gifts—our unique self-expression—with those around us.
To do this, we have to first recognize what makes us unique and what our gifts are. In other words, what is your unique role in this collective awakening? How can you participate in creating the world you wish to live in?
Reflective Questions
What are the talents, gifts, or wisdom I am meant to share with my community or family?
Are any of my perspectives, beliefs, or societal conditioning being challenged? How so?
How am I meant to evolve or let go of old belief structures that no longer serve?
How would I and my life change if my heart were united with my mind for every decision?
How can I best support myself—my body, nervous system, and mind—through the great transformation occurring within and without?
If I were to become an outside, objective observer of my life, thoughts, and habits, what would I change, improve, or keep the same?
What are the out-of-the-box ideas or inspirations I’ve had recently?
Practice Ideas
Because the Moon is in Leo for this Full Moon (and the Sun is conjunct Vesta, keeper of the sacred flame), I recommend incorporating fire into your ceremony. Whether it’s a candle or a proper fire, use the flame as a focal point in your ceremony or meditation.
Allow the wisdom of the fire element to enter your consciousness, and see what it illuminates within. If you have a larger fire, you can also write out what you are ready to release or transform and offer it to the fire to burn.
This is a highly reflective and contemplative moment in time, given that all the personal planets are in Aquarius, a fixed air sign. Give yourself time and space to meditate and journal about your life. Free-flow write or think deeply, allowing your mind ample space to explore and imagine.
Bird’s-Eye View Meditation:
As I mentioned above, you can meditate as an outside observer of your life. Not only can you look at your relationships, thoughts, habits, and routines, but you can also have a life review, where you look at your life as a whole up until this point.
First, ground and center yourself, breathing deeply. Once you are in a meditative and relaxed state, imagine yourself zooming out and looking at yourself from above. Notice who you are as a human, and then imagine yourself going about your daily routines. What do you notice? What are your struggles and your gifts? How do you show up in your relationships? From this objective place, what do you see about yourself?
For the life review, you can flip through different scenes of your life as if you are watching a movie. What scenes come to your mind’s eye? Are there any moments where you are being called to look at things from a different perspective, perhaps from the perspective of the other people involved? What can you learn from these moments?
Before going back into your body, shower your human self with love, and recognize that you are an immortal soul having a human experience. When you’re ready, come fully back into your body. Ground your awareness into the sensations of your physical vessel and breathe deeply.
Go outside and breathe in some fresh air, allowing your senses to fully awaken. When doing an exercise like this, it’s important to really ground yourself afterwards so that you are fully in this human experience and present-moment reality.
Journal about your experience, taking note of what you learned and what areas of your life may benefit from change or improvement. Note where you are proud of yourself and the things you are doing well.
In essence, this is an opportunity to know ourselves better and to practice shining our light out into the world.
May this Leo Full Moon shower you in blessings, helping you to find your light and to shine it brightly. You are a magnificent star, a unique being of infinite wisdom. Do not hide from your light, for you are the light of the Divine.
With love,
Rhianna Quanstrom
