Full Moon in Scorpio Report

The Full Moon in Scorpio on May 1st, at 1:22 P.M. EST, is calling us to face our shadows and to practice embodying the ways we are meant to grow and evolve in this lifetime. This Full Moon marks a choice point: will we continue playing out old patterns, or will we step into new ways of being?
We’ll dive into the most prominent themes of the Scorpio Full Moon, followed by reflective questions and practice ideas. As always, notice what stands out to you the most and trust that this is what you are meant to deepen into during this Full Moon.
Full Moon in Scorpio Overview
Full Moons represent a culmination — energy coming into its fullness. As such, this is a time for reflecting on what was initiated or symbolically planted around the time of the New Moon in Aries. You may now be seeing the fruit of your intentions.
When something reaches its fullness, it also represents a tipping point, where the energy will now start to decrease. This is why Full Moons are traditionally seen as a time of releasing what no longer serves.
Because Full Moons reflect the intensity of the Sun’s light in the darkness of night, they symbolically represent an illumination of our shadow or subconscious. This is why emotions are often stronger and more at the surface than at other times in the lunar cycle.
The illumination of our shadow is one of the main themes of this Scorpio Full Moon, for several reasons. The first being that Scorpio itself is the sign of the underworld and what’s hidden under the surface of our consciousness, both individually and collectively. This is the sign of transformation, of death and rebirth. It is not satisfied with shallow water or only scraping the surface – Scorpio wants to go deep and uncover the mysteries of the depths.
The Moon in Scorpio indicates that our shadows and emotions may come to the surface more strongly; the energy may feel passionate and intense. Along with our personal shadow, this is a time for exploring the deeper meaning of our physical reality, our senses, and how we relate to each other.
You may be more psychically sensitive to other people’s emotions and psychological motivations. You’ll also want to pay attention to Scorpio's shadow emerging, which shows up as paranoia, suspicion of others, projections (to and from others), seeking vengeance, and obsessiveness.
It’s likely that the intense and fiery energy of Aries that we’ve been immersed in brought some things to the surface. Perhaps you have experienced some heated arguments, triggers, frustration, or friction in your life in some way these past two weeks.
This Full Moon is now asking us to dive deeper into what’s surfaced so we can get to the root of it. By going to the root of the wound, we discover something new and yet ancient about ourselves that is ready to be integrated, reclaimed, or healed and released.
It is new in the sense that we are just now seeing it with clarity, and ancient in that this energy may have been swirling in the undercurrents of our consciousness for who knows how long. This is a time for pulling on the threads of our shadow, bringing them into the light, and examining them with objective transparency for self-understanding, deep healing, and transformation.
With the Sun now in the sign of Taurus, we are supported in this process with a sense of more grounding and stability. We want to lean on this stability as the fire of Aries continues to burn and the Moon initiates us into an underworld journey. Ground into your body and your senses. And if it all feels too much or overwhelming, seek peace and comfort in the present moment — in the beauty of nature and the pleasure of your senses.
While this is an intense time, both astrologically and collectively, the Sun in Taurus is reminding us to slow down and breathe deeply amidst it all. If we wish to transform and explore our shadows, this journey must be balanced with honoring our body, our nervous system, and only going as fast and as far as your body is ready to go.
Sometimes slowness and gentleness are what’s most needed. Investigate your wounds and slippery shadows lurking at the edges, all while honoring your nervous system and innate body wisdom.
Reflective Questions:
What has come into more fullness or completion that I initiated around the New Moon in Aries?
Are there any intense emotions, triggers, memories, or dreams that I’ve had in the last couple of weeks? If so, what might they be teaching or showing me?
Are there any emotions I’ve been suppressing or denying? How can I support myself to feel them more fully?
What shadows are asking for my attention right now? How do they tend to show up in my thoughts, behaviors, relationships, or emotional reactions?
What practices, environments, or sensory experiences help me feel grounded, safe, and connected to the present moment?
Full Moon Square Pluto: Initiating an Underworld Journey
The second reason this Full Moon focuses on illuminating the shadow is that the Sun and Moon are in a T-square to Pluto in Aquarius. This is significant because Pluto is also the ruler of this Full Moon, as it is the modern ruler of Scorpio. This adds another layer of emphasis to Pluto’s themes for this Full Moon.
Pluto is all about transformation, power, and the cycle of death and rebirth. As the lord of the underworld, he governs the unseen; what’s hidden in the shadows; our deep unconscious/subconscious self. With the two luminaries square to him, this is all about making the unconscious conscious.
Pay special attention to emotions, memories, dreams, triggers, or any unusual physical symptoms that arise around this time. Trust that whatever surfaces is what you are now ready to face.
Because Pluto is in Aquarius, we could be confronted with aspects of ourselves we have denied or suppressed in order to fit in with society, our community, or our family system. Where we are being inauthentic, even subtly, to fit in with others, may come sharply into our awareness. In doing so, we give our power away to the collective. Pluto square the Full Moon is guiding us to reclaim our power — our unique, individual essence and truth.
It takes courage to stand out from the crowd, to choose a different path than what is expected of you or from what everyone else is doing. We can use the courage of the planets in Aries, and Pluto in Aquarius, to deepen into who we really are and step more fully into our authentic truth.
This requires us to face our fears of rejection and not belonging, and in doing so, we are reminded that our worth is innate – it cannot be given or taken away from anyone or anything outside of us. We are innately worthy, we are innately loved, because we are love. Anchor into this truth within. It is time to act in accordance with our authentic selves rather than what society, family, or our culture expects from us.
Pluto is also conjunct the asteroid Juno, who represents sacred commitments, marriage, and long-term contracts. This could bring up unhealthy power dynamics, old relationship patterns, and anything lurking in the shadows that is ready to be addressed with significant others.
If there has been something you (or the other) has been denying or suppressing, this Full Moon may bring it up so strongly that it can no longer be denied. This may be a time of speaking your truth and needs, addressing past wounds, and making a conscious effort to evolve out of old relationship patterns.
Reflective Questions:
Has anything been knocking at my awareness that I need to address?
In what ways have I been acting or identifying to fit in with society that does not align with my authentic self?
In what ways have I made myself smaller or more “normal” to belong in my social groups?
How can I practice being more of my authentic self around my family and peers?
Are there any patterns, old wounds, or unresolved conflicts I need to address with my partner?
Chiron Conjunct Mercury
Another aspect that will support us in the process of making the unconscious conscious is Chiron conjunct Mercury in Aries. With Chiron representing our deepest, core wounds, this is yet another symbol pointing to addressing our shadow during this Scorpio Full Moon.
Mercury is the planet of the mind, translation, communication, and connecting the dots. With him conjunct Chiron, we are going to have more mental clarity around our deepest wounds and how they are affecting our individual expression in this life.
We may have an easier time translating and connecting the dots between emotional pain, triggers, dreams, or physical symptoms to an underlying core wound. As such, this is a potent time for communicating about and healing deep wounds through journaling, conversation, or mental insight.
Reflective Questions:
What are the core wounds I have that have shaped who I am?
In what ways do these core wounds influence my personality and how I relate to others?
Are there any behavioral, emotional, or thought patterns related to these wounds that are ready to evolve?
Are there any gifts or strengths I’ve developed because of these wounds?
How can I best support myself in addressing and healing these wounds?
Grand Water Trine: Gentle Healing Support
During this Full Moon, the Moon is in a Grand Water Trine with Hygeia at 6 degrees Cancer and the North Node at 6 degrees Pisces. Hygiea is the goddess of miraculous healing and awakening, while the North Node indicates our soul’s highest path forward.
Essentially, this configuration supports the deep healing process that this Full Moon in Scorpio initiates. This is intuitive, feminine, emotional, and nurturing energy.
This trine is calling us to deepen into our feminine wisdom, to allow our emotions to flow like an underground river within us. And through allowing our emotions to flow and our feminine wisdom to awaken, we will have greater ease in facing and healing our deep wounds.
Reflective Questions:
What helps me feel safe and supported in fully feeling and releasing my emotions?
In what ways am I being called to soften, surrender, or trust my intuition more deeply right now?
How does my body communicate emotional truth or intuitive knowing to me?
How can I create more space in my life for rest, reflection, emotional processing, and receptivity?
Honoring the Feminine; Honoring the Earth
There are a few prominent elements of this Full Moon that are pointing to healing the feminine within and without, and this includes honoring our Mother Earth. First, the Sun is conjunct Ceres, which is at 18 degrees Taurus, and the Moon is conjunct Haumea at 3 degrees Scorpio.
Both of these small orbiting bodies have a significant relationship to Gaia. Ceres is the Roman goddess of agriculture, fertility, and motherhood. She brought abundance to the land and took it away in her grief. Haumea is a Hawaiian goddess of fertility and creation who is said to have birthed the islands of Hawaii.
These symbols point to themes of regeneration and honoring the land during this Full Moon. Furthermore, Taurus is the sign most closely related to the natural world, so this lunar cycle is asking us to reflect on how we relate to nature and our role in our environment.
This is also a reminder that the Earth is going through her own transformation and death and rebirth process. We are witnessing drastic weather patterns and environmental changes all around us, and yet through this time of death, regeneration always follows.
We can find hope and solace in the understanding of cycles, that birth always follows death, and regeneration always follows destruction. It is the way of the Earth. It is time to honor this cycle and honor the Earth and take greater care in understanding our ripple effect on the land.
The second aspect pointing to honoring the feminine is Venus square the Nodes of Fate. She is also trine to Pluto. As the ruler of Taurus, she is another important figure in the overall energy of this Full Moon.
Venus is the goddess of love, and with her square to the nodes, we may be confronted with a choice point. This choice point is how we have previously loved based on conditioning and patterning, and how we are called to love as our more mature and wise selves. Because she is in Gemini, this could also relate to how we communicate our love and emotional needs with others.
How are we called to evolve in our embodiment of love? How are we called to evolve in how we love and relate to others? Where do we restrict or hold back our love based on past wounds, family and societal conditioning, and even ancestral patterning?
This is calling for feminine evolution in each of us, no matter our gender. We are being asked to grow our intuition, compassion, emotional wisdom, love, and interconnection with all that is.
Healing the feminine also relates to our sexuality. Taurus and Scorpio are related to sexuality and fertility. Venus, Ceres, and Haumea are all connected to fertility and procreation, indicating that this may also be a time of awakening our sexuality and innate creative gifts.
Because of the aspects to Pluto and the Chiron/Mercury conjunction, this could indicate wounds related to our sexuality coming to the surface. With Hygea in the mix, this is an opportunity for deep healing of sexual wounds and awakening more to the sacredness and life-giving energy of our sexuality.
Above all, these aspects point to honoring and healing the feminine. And when we honor the feminine, we honor the land. When we honor the feminine, we honor our bodies, emotions, and innate life-force.
When we honor the feminine, we heal the earth, for she is the Earth. She reminds us that we are not isolated beings but that we are connected to everything around us in the great web of life.
Reflective Questions:
In what ways can I honor and better care for the land and wild animals I share my home with?
How do I currently nurture my relationship with the natural world, and where might that relationship deepen?
Where in my own life am I moving through a cycle of death and rebirth?
What arises for me when I reflect on the cycle of death and rebirth, destruction and regeneration?
How can I become more conscious of my “ripple effect,” the ways my actions, choices, and energy impact others and the world around me?
Where do I hold back love, vulnerability, affection, or emotional truth out of fear or past wounds?
What would loving from a more mature, embodied, and authentic place look like for me?
Are there wounds, shame, fears, or conditioning connected to my sexuality or creative expression that are ready to be seen, felt, and healed?
Practice Ideas
As mentioned above, you’ll want to pay attention to anything that surfaces at this time, especially if it seems “out of the blue.” This includes emotions, memories, vivid dreams, and triggers. Take what has surfaced into your spiritual or meditation practice, and follow the thread deeper and deeper, asking, “What’s here for me?”
You’ll want to do this when you’re emotionally regulated and centered. If you’ve been triggered or are experiencing emotional overwhelm, make a mental (or literal) note about the experience, and then investigate it when you feel calm and present in your body.
Honor your body and nervous system in this process and don’t force or push for answers; allow them to arise naturally. If no understanding or release occurs, that’s okay. Give it to your higher self and trust that, with time, understanding or clarity will come.
Even if no obvious triggers or emotions are coming at this time, you can still dive into shadow work during this Full Moon. In your practice, enter an altered state of consciousness either through breathwork, ecstatic dance, deep meditation, or plant medicine. Once you have entered an altered state, state an intention or ask something along the lines of: “What is hidden in my shadow that I am now ready to see or feel?”
Pay attention to even the most subtle of sensations, and don’t push or force anything to happen. The answer may not come in clear language or immediate knowing – it may be indistinct symbols or nuanced emotions. Be still in the process, allowing your innate wisdom to reveal the answer in whatever way most serves you at this time.
Along with shadow work, this is a season of honoring the Earth. Spend time in nature, plant seeds in a garden, soak in the sun, and allow your heart to fill with love for the environment surrounding you.
Lastly, you are warmly invited to join us for a Full Moon Ecstatic Dance on Friday, May 1st! Allow yourself to be held in a loving container as you let loose and embody your wild, true self.
May this Scorpio Full Moon support you in courageously facing your shadows. By confronting our shadows, we release what no longer serves and take the next step in the evolution of our souls. May you see what you need to see, and feel what you need to feel. May you remember your connection to the Earth and the Stars, anchoring into the land beneath your feet, as you honor the Full Moon in Scorpio.
With love,
