Welcoming Change and Gaining a Higher Perspective

The Full Moon in Aquarius on August 9th is a breath of fresh air from the previous dense energies we’ve been dancing in. With mental stimulation and clarity, we’re likely to receive new insight into what’s been occurring for us over the last few weeks.

In this guide, we’ll discuss what the Full Moon in Aquarius represents and how the other planetary energies are affecting this moon phase. Be sure to have a journal nearby, as there are reflective questions for you to delve into in each section.

Full Moon in Aquarius

The Full Moon is a culmination of energy that starts with the New Moon. The seeds that were planted on the New Moon are now bearing fruit. In other words, the intentions and ceremonies made on the New Moon are now coming into reality or fullness.

During the Full Moon, the Sun and Moon are opposite, so the Sun is shining on the Moon, representing an illumination of consciousness. What was previously unknown or hidden is now ablaze in our consciousness, and we can see more clearly. As such, you’ll want to reflect on what seeds or intentions you planted on the New Moon (or simply what was happening around that time), and see how those relate to what’s occurring for you now.

With the Full moon in Aquarius, the energy is all about clarity, understanding our path forward, and coming into a deeper understanding of who we truly are. This moon is asking us to plan for the future and to think outside the box. This is a time when we want to think about our future selves and the decisions we need to make now to achieve that future vision.

Not only do we want to think about our future selves, but also how our current life compares to what we envision. Look at things from a higher perspective as an impersonal observer. What do you see?

With the polarity between the Sun in Leo and the Moon in Aquarius, we want to think about our individuality. Are we owning our unique light and creativity, or are we just merging with the crowd? This Full Moon is asking you to stop trying to “fit in” with societal expectations and become a sacred rebel for your soul.

Honoring the Sacred Flame

This Full Moon is squaring the asteroid and Roman goddess Vesta in Scorpio. This aspect brings more depth to this Full Moon, and asks for our “outside of the box” thinking to come from a deeper place.

Vesta represents devotion to the sacred flame. I like to think of her energy as my own devotion to the spiritual fire within me, the flame that represents my soul and spiritual beliefs. This Full Moon is asking for our higher thinking and realizations to come from this place of devotion.

A practice for this Full Moon is to sink into your sacred flame. Where does the sacred flame live in your body? Perhaps it’s in your heart, your solar plexus, womb, or sexual organs. Sink into the place where it feels alive and the flame is burning. From this place, ask, “What does this full moon want to show me? What am I meant to know?”

Be open to mental insights, such as thoughts or visions. This full moon is supportive of intellectual insights and understanding because of the moon in Aquarius and Mercury in strong aspects.

Reflection Questions

  • What intentions, dreams, or seeds did I plant during the last New Moon? How are they beginning to show results or take form now?

  • If I were to look at my life from a higher vantage point—as an impersonal observer—what patterns or themes would I notice?

  • Where am I still trying to “fit in” with societal or external expectations?

  • What would it look like to become a sacred rebel for my soul—to live fully aligned with my own truth?

Mercury: Messenger of the Gods

Mercury is one of the loudest planets in the sky for this full moon in Aquarius. He is considered messenger of the gods, which means he delivers messages from the other planets, and helps us translate and understand their wisdom. His energy supports our mental understanding of the mysteries. Currently, he is in both challenging and supportive aspects for this Full Moon.

Challenging Aspects: Shadow Work and Deepest Wounds

During this full moon, Mercury is opposing Pluto, which points to clarity around subconscious patterns and our shadow self. During the previous New Moon, Pluto was opposing the Sun and Moon. As such, any seeds or intentions planted about our shadow or unconscious are now being brought to light, and we may see the fruit of our efforts. We may receive insight about what’s holding us back or what is dimming our light.

Along with the challenging Pluto opposition, Mercury is squaring Chiron. Chiron represents our deepest wounds, as well as our spiritual gifts. He was also loud during the New Moon, so you may have experienced old wounds coming to the surface during that time. Now, with this Full Moon, you may have some clarity and understanding about those wounds.

However, because squares are challenging aspects, it may still feel raw and crunchy. As such, if you notice old wounds coming to the surface or you’re feeling triggered, be gentle with yourself. And, when you feel more regulated, perhaps try to look at things from a higher perspective. You might receive insights about this wound.

Supportive Aspects: Clarity and Insights

Now, it’s not all challenging, for Mercury is the focal point in a kite pattern with Mars, Uranus, and Pluto. Kites are rare astrological patterns that are highly supportive. They carry a channeling energy of the planet that is the focal point. This kite formation is in the elements of fire and air, which point to intellectual understanding, passion, and action forward.

With Mercury, this could lead to rapid insights, healing conversations, sudden realizations, and mental clarity around what your next steps are. If you’re at a crossroads with a decision, this Full Moon will support you in choosing a path to follow and what actions you may need to take for your path forward.

It may also bring sudden change and redirection in your life, so be open and curious about new opportunities. If you do experience sudden—and perhaps unwelcome—change, know that the energy is ultimately supporting your soul’s evolution. Trust that whatever is occurring is for your highest good and your soul’s path in this life.

Saturn and Neptune are also in the mix, and they are continuing to add insight around our spiritual practices and making choices from a place of sovereignty. This again points to this Full Moon squaring Vesta—we want to look at the patterns of our life and make decisions from a deep, wise, and sacred place within us.

All together, Mercury is here to deliver wisdom from the lord of the underworld (Pluto), from our inner shaman (Chiron), the warrior and our action-oriented self (Mars), from our creative genius (Uranus), and our spiritual master within (Saturn & Neptune). Feel into each of those archetypes and see which one sparks something within you, for there might be wisdom there for you.

Reflective Questions:

  • What patterns am I noticing in myself that are holding me back or dimming my light?

  • What sudden insights or realizations have I had recently?

  • Am I at a crossroads with any decision? If so, what does my clearest, wisest inner voice say about the next step?

  • What does “a deep, wise, and sacred place within me” feel like when I sit quietly and listen?

  • Which of these archetypes tugs at me the most: the lord of the underworld, the shaman/wounded healer, the warrior, the innovator, the wise elder, or the mystic? How can I be open to their messages during this Full Moon?

Welcoming the New

Amazingly, there are two kite patterns for this Full Moon. In this second kite pattern, Neptune and Saturn are the focal point. The other planets involved with this aspect include Uranus, Pluto, and Mars (in a Grand Trine).

As I said before, kites are highly supportive patterns, ushering in transformation and pointing us towards the energy we should focus on. In this case, that energy is Neptune and Saturn. Saturn gives structure, discipline, and boundaries; Neptune offers spiritual vision, imagination, and the dissolving of illusions.

This conjunction (they are at the same degree in Aries) is asking us to be selfish—in the best way. It is asking us to sink into who we truly are, internally and outwardly. It is also pointing to making our dreams and future visions real, structured, and aligned with the soul. Rather than simply thinking about how we wish for our life to change or what we wish to manifest, we need to take action (Mars) to bring it into reality (Saturn).

What’s interesting about each of these planets is that they are all in the first degree of their sign. With all of these planets interacting with each other, they are pointing to welcoming in the new.

This year is all about transformation and change. This Full Moon supports us in welcoming this change. It is time for a perspective shift (Aquarius) and to look at change from a higher, more objective place.

The mind and our thoughts are powerful—they can shape our reality and our narrative about life. I believe this Full Moon and these potent planetary aspects are asking us to look at change as a beneficial and necessary part of life. They are reminding us that change doesn’t need to be scary or challenging; rather, it can be beautiful and harmonious. It all depends on how we relate to it and how hard we fight against it.

What we focus on is what will grow in our lives, and I believe these planets are asking us to transform our beliefs and fears around change. To welcome in the New Earth, we must envision a future we wish to live in. What does that future look like? What do you look like?

This Full Moon and this specific kite pattern are also encouraging us to look at everything around us, including ourselves, from a new perspective. Who are you now? What brings you joy, now?

Reflective Questions:

  • If I release old expectations of who I “should” be, who am I now, both inwardly and outwardly?

  • What practical structures, habits, or boundaries would help me bring my future visions into reality?

  • What brings me genuine joy now (not a month ago, not last year, not in some imagined future), but in this moment? How can I weave more of that joy into my daily reality?

  • When I think of change, what emotions or fears arise, and where do they come from?

  • Are there fears, doubts, or distractions that pull my focus away from what truly matters?

Weaving it all Together

This Full Moon in Aquarius brings insight and transformation. With two powerful kite patterns in the sky, the energy is both highly charged and highly supportive, offering us the clarity to see our truth and the courage to step into it.

This is a great time to reflect on who you are now, given all the change that has occurred over the last few months, and who you wish to become. The energy of this Full Moon is reminding us that change is not to be feared but embraced. Transformation is the natural rhythm of life, and when we meet it with openness, it becomes a source of beauty, harmony, and empowerment.

For your Full Moon ritual or ceremony, consider asking the energy of the Full Moon to direct your thoughts to a higher perspective. Ask for insight about your path forward from your guides, and be open to seeing what might be blocking your way.

Tune into who you truly are, and give yourself the freedom to be “weird.” The more you embrace your true self and creative genius this Full Moon, the more clarity you’ll receive about what brings you joy and purpose in this life.

With love,
