Honoring the Sacred Feminine
The New Moon in Virgo, happening at 2:06 a.m. EST, is here to awaken your sacred feminine. It’s here to revolutionize your routines, strip off your masks, stir up your emotions, and show you the power of your sensual, loving heart.
In this astrology guide, we’ll cover some of the major aspects occurring under this New Moon. I’ll give you reflective questions to delve into for each section. At the end, I’ll share some practice ideas for you to work with the New Moon experientially. As always, there is quite a lot happening in the stars, so be open to what stands out to you the most, and trust that this is the wisdom for you to lean into.
New Moon in Virgo Overview
Every New Moon is the beginning of a new cycle, or the start of a new chapter. However, this New Moon brings that fresh-start energy to another level, as it takes place at 0 degrees of Virgo.
Each sign has 30 degrees, and each degree holds meaning, with some more significant than others. Zero degrees is a highly significant point, as it represents zero-point energy. Zero-point is creation energy; it is the fruitful nothingness from which all things come into being.
Virgo represents the harvest and tending to the earth. Combined with the 0-degree significance, this New Moon is highly supportive of planting intentions, goals, or desires that you wish to manifest over the next few weeks. Furthermore, this New Moon in Virgo opens the doorways to eclipse season (the following full moon is an eclipse), so this is also an opportunity to plant seeds for this upcoming eclipse portal.
Along those lines, this New Moon is setting the foundation and preparing us for the eclipses in the month of September. Keep this in mind as you read this report, as this energy is setting you up for the weeks ahead. I’ll talk more about eclipses in the next report (you can also check out this podcast episode,) but just know that they are incredibly transformative and can be quite intense.
Earth Priestess Square Medusa and Uranus
Virgo is an earth sign ruled by the planet Mercury. Think of the intelligence of the mind (Mercury) grounded in reality (Virgo). This sign is precise, analytical, organized, elegant, streamlined, and efficient. Virgo represents our daily lives, including our routines, work, and habits. On a higher level, she is the earth priestess, who can bring formless, sacred energy down through the body and into reality.
With the New Moon in Virgo, we want to reflect on our daily lives, our work, and our routines. On a deeper, spiritual level, we want to reflect on our capacity to be channels of sacred energy.
Now, this New Moon squares the asteroid Medusa and the planet Uranus (which are opposing each other). These aspects bring the energy to a deeper and perhaps more electrified level. Squares are challenging, so pay attention to where you experience friction, frustration, or tension throughout your day.
Medusa is a Greek goddess, famously known for her snake hair and her power to turn people to stone. In astrology, she is a dark goddess archetype who represents the masks we wear to protect ourselves from others. In other words, to protect our true essence and vulnerable, loving heart.
She is opposing Uranus, a radical revolutionary and awakener. He brings rapid change and shocking revelations (think lightning-bolt energy). Uranus is here to expand our consciousness and awaken us to our unique potential. With the New Moon squaring these archetypes, our daily lives, work routines, or spiritual practices can undergo a sudden change or a challenging shake-up.
It is through the challenge and the discomfort that we notice the mask we wear (Medusa). It is through the friction that we gain insights about the changes we need to make (Uranus).
As such, it’s important to pay attention to where things feel off, where the energy feels stuck or blocked, or to the triggers and uncomfortable situations that arise. These are all pointing to you uncovering a deeper truth, especially around your daily life, the masks you wear, and who you believe you are.
Reflective Questions:
How do my current daily routines support or hinder my well-being and soul’s calling?
How do I bring sacred or spiritual energy into my everyday tasks and work?
If I embodied the “earth priestess” archetype, how would I care for my body, home, and work differently?
What protective masks do I wear in my daily life, and what parts of me are they shielding?
What outdated habits, routines, or roles are ready to be shaken up or released?
What foundations can I lay now that will support me through the coming weeks of change?
New Moon Sextile Hygea and Isis: Grace-Filled, Feminine Magic
While the above energy can feel unsettling, there is grace in the mix with the Sun + Moon sextiling the asteroids Hygea and Isis, who are perfectly conjunct at 28° Gemini. Sextiles are harmonious aspects; therefore, the energy is more free-flowing and positive.
Isis is an Egyptian goddess who holds a tremendous amount of magic and mystery. She is a healer, midwife, earth priestess, and alchemist. She can bring that which is forgotten (or dismembered) back to life. In other words, her energy represents the potential for us to remember who we truly are, including our spiritual gifts and past-life memories.
Hygea (also spelled Hygeia) is a Greek goddess who represents instantaneous and miraculous healing. She awakens us to our feminine energy, and her grace-filled energy alchemizes toxins and negative energy into a life-giving elixir.
Combined, these archetypes are here to help us awaken to our feminine gifts. Think body wisdom (heart + womb wisdom). Feel into your sensuality, your connection to the earth, to life force itself, and your connection to your intuition and love.
Chiron: A Season for Healing
Chiron, the wounded healer and shaman, continues to be a significant player in the current astrology. During this New Moon, he is sextile Hygea + Isis and trine the Sun + Moon. This is a harmonious pattern; however, he still represents our deepest wounds. As such, there can be triggers and discomfort with these aspects, but also a whole lot of grace.
The energy feels like a safe and sacred container in which to let your walls down and truly feel all that you need to feel. The container is held by the wisdom, love, and grace of Isis and Hygea, and they are supporting our emotions (the Moon) and our consciousness (the Sun) to gently explore our tender wounds.
There is also a tremendous amount of healing available with Isis + Hygea sextile Chiron. Through exploring our wounds, we may uncover gifts or strengths, and we may release what no longer serves. I invite you to be open to your triggers and discomfort, and to allow the wisdom within to show you the path to healing.
Reflective Questions:
How do I currently connect with my feminine energy, and what helps me deepen that connection?
Where does love wish to flow? Where in my life do I feel the most connected, fulfilled, and love flows freely?
What practices or rituals can I do to feel more pleasure in my body and give space for my sensual nature?
How can I set up a container or practice for myself where I feel safe enough to let my walls down and feel all that I need to feel?
What patterns, beliefs, or old stories am I ready to release in order to heal more fully?
Honoring the Sacred Feminine
The greatest thing you can do for this New Moon in Virgo is honor the sacred feminine within. The feminine is not limited to gender; it is an aspect of our universe, and it is within all things. Some say it is life force energy itself—that which gives life to form. The feminine is the Earth, it is our bodies, our emotions, sensations, pleasure, and intuition.
The sacred feminine is loud during this New Moon. Along with the archetypes mentioned above, Venus, Mary Magdalene, and Pallas Athena are all significant in the current astrology.
Venus represents the feminine lover and our core values. Mary Magdalene is devotion and unconditional love, and Athena is our wise and strategic feminine warrior. These are all aspects of self; they are energies and frequencies we all carry within. Astrology is simply pointing to what is coming more alive within us during this time.
As such, I invite you to orient your intentions, rituals, and New Moon practices toward the sacred feminine within.
Practice Ideas
Because feminine energy is strong during this New Moon in Virgo, I recommend body-based practices. Before you journal or meditate on the reflective questions above, I invite you to move your body first.
Move the energy within your body, sinking into your heart, your womb/sexual organs, and your hips. Allow your movements to be free-flowing, perhaps with the intention, “May She (the sacred feminine) move me.” Then allow yourself to be free in movement, breath, and sound, giving yourself full permission to express yourself.
During this practice, allow your emotions to rise, and give yourself space to truly feel them. Your rage, sadness, joy, contentment, confusion, fear, or disappointment are all valid and worthy of your attention.
Another way to honor this New Moon and the feminine is to spend intentional time in nature. Go for a walk or meditate outside, and allow the natural world to speak to you. Ground yourself in the frequency of the Earth, and attune yourself to the energy of the land.
Allowing your feminine energy room to breathe and grounding yourself in the healing energy of the Earth will be highly supportive during this coming eclipse season. This astrology is setting the foundation for the weeks to come, so consider nourishing practices you can return to throughout the month ahead. Allow grace, love, and pleasure to fill your being, and surrender to the mystery unfolding.
With love,
